Located in the rolling hills of Perry County, Cherokee Valley Bison Ranch is nestled in the creek valley of our 3rd generation family farm. Each day we are treated to picturesque sunrises and breath taking sunsets. The music of nature found in breezy trees and the cry of red tailed hawks provides the soundtrack to the grazing and frolicking of our contented herd.

Cherokee Valley is conveniently located 40 minutes east of Columbus. Newark, Lancaster and Zanesville are all within a 30 minute drive.

Our Business

In 2007 when Jarrod and Carie met, she was already interested in raising bison. It wasn't long before Jarrod was hooked on the idea. In 2008, after much reading and research we decided to go for it!  Planning to start out small we went to "just look" at a herd we had read about for sale nearby. Looking turned into buying 14 woolly, humpy buffalo!  Starting out without so much as a fence within a few months we had built 2 pastures and a promising business! We have since purchased several bison from shows and other producers. We are continually growing and diversifying our herd. You can  find us selling our products from our Farm Stand and traveling to Farmers Market's in neighboring communities. 

We are members of the National Bison Association and Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association.

Who We Are

Jarrod and Carie Starr are a husband and wife team who enjoy ranching at their home in Thornville, Ohio.

Jarrod is a native of Iowa. He was raised on his grandparents farm training and riding horses.

Carie was raised in Thornville on her grandparents harness racing horse farm. Part of that farm is now home to Cherokee Valley Bison Ranch.

Daughter Abby, is an aspiring rancher and hopes to inherit the bison ranch and enjoy a career as a Large Animal Vet.
